Before Timothy Welbeck became an attorney, before he taught at universities, before he became an author, he rapped. "Living Wage" brings him back to the microphone, and reveals he has much to say. The EP's overarching theme embraces the work it entails to live authentically in a world that places so many competing demands on our time and attention. To that end, "Living Wage" is reminiscent of Jay'Z's 4:44, Phonte's No News is Good News, and Oddisee's The Good Fight in terms of sound, content, and scope. It features production from Joshua Heath, Tone Jonez. Tee-Wyla, and David P. Stevens, and thereby fuses hip-hop, jazz, and soul. It's content tackles compelling issues to which many millennials can relate: the search for work/life balance, the joys of parenting, being happily married, wrestling with the inevitability of aging and mortality, etc. In so doing, Timothy traverses the bends of his distinct personal narrative on "Living Wage," while still demonstrating relatable human experiences.
